Being able to articulate one’s thoughts accurately is a skill that is hard to acquire but extremely valuable. The Debate and Discussion Society is a group of individuals passionate about exchanging ideas, discussing difficult topics, and of course, debating. We’d like to share this fun and worthwhile activity with the campus community.
Apart from the Inter IIT Cultural Meet, the club has been representing IIT Kanpur at various tournaments that are conducted in prestigious colleges across India, namely the IITB British Parliamentary Debate, the SRCC Freshers’ Debate Tournament-Gambit, the NUJS Parliamentary Debate, amongst others. We regularly practice debates in different formats, group discussions on interesting topics and informative talks by the senior members. In the Debate and Discussion Society, apart from the usual practices and activities, anyone is free to call for a discussion or debate anytime! We encourage initiative and involvement on part of the members.
If you want to be a part but the idea of speaking at tournaments like the ones we mentioned, or public speaking in general intimidates you, worry not! Most of the current members started debating after joining IITK, and your seniors are here to guide you through the process.
