Event Format
The participants will be randomly divided into a number of teams, which will then be assigned tasks that they will be expected to complete. Each task will have a specified time limit, after which The Judge will decide which team has won the round. The remaining teams will enter the boardroom where some of the participants will be fired – that is, they will not be able to participate in this contest any further. The teams will then be assigned new tasks and participants will be fired at the end of each task until we come to the last man standing.
During boardroom meetings, each person/team will be allowed to speak out in its defense or against others. But, once The Judge has voiced his decision, no appeals will be entertained.
While a team is performing a task, the team is expected to comply with any rules that are specified or implied by the coordinators when the task is given to the teams. However, we will reward innovation and quick thinking as long as it is not considered cheating. Here, too, the decision of The Judge will be final.
The tasks will test participants in a variety of ways. They will test the participants’ capabilities at being leaders in the business world. Technical expertise as such is not necessary and will be provided if required, but we expect participants to be able to analyze problems and give us a solution. For example, if we ask you to formulate a plan for creating a hotel on the moon, then we do not expect you to know the number of hours the hotel would be exposed to sunlight, whether the food would spoil faster or slower, etc., but we would expect you to have considered them in the answer you give us. You could say that you would ensure that the interior of the hotel premises would appear to have been exposed to sunlight for around 16 hours in a day, or that you would decide on how big you would want the storehouses to be after you find out how much time it takes for food to spoil, or that visitors would face xyz problems because of the change in gravity and a, b and c are the ways to solve these problems. Of course, this is only an example, but we hope to have given you am idea of what we’re looking for.
Note: The event will take up most of the three days of Megabucks. So, participants are advised to plan their schedules such that they do not commit to any other event while the event is on. Participants that have not been fired will not be allowed to remain absent for the length of a task, so any other commitment will have to be taken care of in the participant’s free time. Of course, once the participant has been fired, he/she is free to do as he wishes.
If enough participants wish to attend some event in Megabucks, and the coordinators can change the schedule without major difficulties, the possibility of allowing the participants to attend that event will be considered. In case a participant wants to attend a specific event, he should notify the coordinators via email and we will do our best to accommodate the request. However, we must warn you that chances of Acumen being worked around any other event/competition in Megabucks are very low.
